Swimming & Beaches

COVID-19 Alert: Beaches at Goodland, Mendota and Stewart Lake are open. There are no lifeguards at these beaches. Public Health will start water quality monitoring in June. Maintain physical distancing of at least 6-feet between people outside your household and don’t gather in groups. Picnic tables are common touch points. If you choose to use them, we recommend wiping them down with a sanitizing cloth first and using hand sanitizer when you are done. Wash your hands when you get home.
Visit our Parks Changes and Updates Due to COVID-19 webpage for a full list of park updates.

Clean Beach Treatment Systems

A map of the Clean Beach Treatment SystemThe Dane County Clean Beach Treatment Systems (PDF) use a flexible curtain and chemical-free water treatment process to create a safe swimming area with clear, beautiful, algae-free water. This helps minimizes beach closings due to algae and E. coli.

These treatment systems allow visitors to enjoy the lakes right now, as Dane County and other partners work to improve the water quality of the Yahara chain of lakes through long-term projects.
