Paddlesports

Paddlesports offer a unique and peaceful way to get out and explore the hidden features of Dane County waterways via canoe, kayak or paddleboard.

Launch Sites, Permits and Parking

A permit is not required for paddling on Dane County lakes or waterways. A Lake Access Permit is required if you park at any of the Madison, Monona, and Dane County designated launch sites.

A list of launch site types and any permit requirements can be found on our boat launch sites webpage.

Canoe/kayak Storage Racks

Canoe/kayak storage racks are available at Stewart Lake County Park, Silverwood County Park, and Mendota County Park. They are free to use and are available on a first come, first served basis once there is open water in the spring. Boats should be labeled with owner’s name and contact info. Boats can not be placed on the ground if the racks are full. Dane County Parks is not liable for any damage or theft.

All boats must be removed one week after ice up or they will be considered abandoned, locks will be cut, and a recovery fee will be charged to have the boat returned. Any boats left on the racks will be held for 90 days. After 90 days the boats will be considered abandoned and put up for public auction.
