Ice Fishing

Ice fishing offers a way to spend time outdoors in the fresh air with family and friends. Enjoy this popular activity on the Yahara chain of lakes or on other locations throughout the park system.

Please note:

Stay safe!
Dane County Parks does not monitor ice conditions or the thickness of the ice so be sure to check ice conditions before heading out.

Upper Mud Lake

Dane County Parks owns and operates a lake access site on Upper Mud Lake - 4020 Terminal Drive, McFarland, 53558. The lake access site is open to the public for access year round, however the main parking area is closed outside of the winter season as the access point was developed primarily to provide ice fishing access. A lake access permit is required but is only enforced during winter months. The site provides walk-in access to the lake and adjacent public lands. Portable toilets and waste collection are provided during winter months only. At this site, due to safety concerns, ATVs and other motorized vehicles for access to the lake/ice or public land are prohibited year-round.
