Property: Salmo Pond County Park
Project Status: Active or in Progress
Schedule: Summer 2022, Anticipated Completion
Dane County Parks replaced the accessible fishing pier that was washed out in August 2018 when Black Earth Creek flooded. Salmo Pond and the adjacent Black Earth Creek are popular shore fishing destinations for trout with several accessible fishing platforms and piers that were constructed at the park in 2013.
Beginning in the spring of 2022 a parking lot reconstruction project will add storm water biofiltration basins and replace the existing toilet building. The project will also include pathway improvements to the fishing piers and add a new picnic table as part of the memorial Dan Wisniewski Accessible Fishing Area.
Dane County Parks is partnering with the Foundation for Dane County Parks, Madison Fishing Expo, Wisconsin Fishing Expo, and Access Ability Wisconsin to develop system-wide improvements at county lake access sites. Improvements will create and enhance access to fishing and boating opportunities for all ages and abilities. For more information about the partnership project including additional project locations please visit the Accessible Fishing & Boating Improvements webpage.
