Native Shrub Preservation at Stewart Lake
Event Dates
- Saturday, 05/03/2025 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Event Description
Stewart Lake County Park has a small but beautiful grove of Common Ninebark, a native shrub with important ecological value. This grove is located along the Upland Prairie Trail. Native bees, beneficial wasps, butterflies, pollinators and song birds rely on it for food and shelter. This grove is being invaded by woody invasive species. This workday will be solely focused on cutting and removing these invasive species in the grove, allowing Common Ninebark to flourish.
The Ninebark volunteer workgroup will meet at the dead-end of Viking Road in Nordic Hills, Mount Horeb. The grove is a short distance away. All equipment will be provided. We look forward to seeing you on May 3.
What to bring & wear:
- Bring drinking water and snacks if you'd like.
- Dress for the weather and wear appropriate clothing that you don't mind working in.
- Wear sturdy closed toe shoes.
- Consider wearing shoes that provide ankle support.
