Youth Volunteers for Conservation - Seed Cleaning Workday

These workdays are for our Youth Volunteers for Conservation (YV4C) members. If you're interested in joining YV4C, check out our YV4C web page to learn more! 

We will be cleaning native prairie seeds at this event. As seed comes in from the field, help is needed processing it in order to produce clean seed ready for spreading on restored areas. Hammer milling is the first step in the cleaning process, releasing seed from capsules and breaking apart seed clusters. That step is then followed by using a fanning mill, which separates seed from chaff using multiple screens and fans. Participants should dress appropriately, this work often gets rather dusty. Wear closed-toe shoes. PPE will be provided - bring your own gardening/work gloves if you'd like.

**Waiver: All workday participants must have a completed and signed YV4C waiver (new as of 7/2022) on file before being able to participate in a workday.
