Environmental Fun Fair

Event Description

Join Dane County Parks at our first ever Environmental Fun Fair located on the grounds of our Lussier Family Heritage Center facility. This FREE fun afternoon will be full of hands on activities and learning opportunities appropriate for all ages.  Activities will include:

  • Rainfall Simulator - Madison Area Municipal Stormwater Partnership
  • Guided Prairie Walks (leaving at 1:15, 1:45, 2:15 and 2:45) - Friends of Capital Springs Recreation Area
  • Mobil Trash Lab - Dane County Waste & Renewables
  • Recycling Game - Sustain Dane
  • Renewable Energy Info - Dane County Office of Energy & Climate Change
  • Native Plants and Pollinators - UW Extension 
  • Learn about amphibians and reptiles - Madison Area Herpetological Society
  • Hands on STEM activity – Dane County 4H and UW Biotechnology Center
  • Fruit and Veggie Hopscotch – Dane County 4H
  • Guided bike ride along the Lower Yahara River Trail leaving from the Heritage Center's Red Barn at 1:30 and 2:15 p.m. (bring your bike and helmet or borrow ours - we have adult and youth sizes) 
  • Nature Craft on our Lower Patio
  • Scavenger Hunt starting at the Lower Patio - check back to get a prize once complete
  • Dream Bus - Madison Public Library
  • Camping Demo - Sierra Club Four Lakes Group
  • Skins, Skulls and Scat Touch Table - Aldo Leopold Nature Center
  • All of Us Research Program - UW School of Medicine & Public Health
  • FUN With Birds - Madison Friends of Urban Nature (FUN)
  • Diagnostic Laboratory with Microscope - WI Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory
  • Discovering Basic Electricity - Wisconsin Science Museum
  • Wisconsin Fossils - Geology Museum

Free Shuttle
The Sierra Club Four Lakes Group is sponsoring a free shuttle to help people get to this event. The shuttle will run on a 45 minute loop with stops at the Village on Park, the Bridge Lakepoint Waunona Neighborhood Center, the Lussier Family Heritage Center and William G. Lunney Lake Farm County Park). The shuttle will run until 4:30 so people can stick around and check out the park after the Fun Fair has ended.

Shuttle schedule:

The first shuttle will depart at the times listed below. It will run on a continuous loop (approximatly 45 minute loop):

  • Village on Park (2300 S Park St - north end) - 12:05 pm
  • Bridge Lakepoint Waunona (1917 Lake Point Dr) - 12:15
  • Wiliam G. Lunney Lake Farm County Park Shelter #1 – 12:25
  • Lussier Family Heritage Center – 12:30

The last shuttle will leave at 4:30 from WG Lunney Lake Farm County Park and 4:45 from the Lussier Family Heritage Center to drop people off at Bridge Lakepoint Waunona and the Village on Park.
